Summer's last hurrah

Our dear friends the Spencers have the lucky privilege of getting invited to this fantastic cabin/hippie commune a few times a year, and WE were lucky enough to go with them at the end of August. The place has two cabins, a sauna, a huge raspberry patch, and tons of space for all of us to run and play. Oh, and it's surrounded by pine trees and on a lake, with kayak provided. By day we played hard with the kiddies, caught fish, swam (yes, it was cold!), and shared meals. By night we sat around the campfire with libations, laughs, and a star-filled sky. What more could you possibly want from a family vacation?

Here are a few photos that capture the fun. Graham, being the water baby that he is, was in heaven. The first one is one of my favorite photos: Harriet and Graham floating in a giant inner tube. Too cute.

A break at the lake

We were given the fantastic opportunity last week to stay at a lakeside cabin with tons of private land ... complete bliss. For four nights we slept (or took turns sleeping), played by the lake, and enjoyed every minute of being together. Graham loved crawling and crawling with no street or cars in sight.

One of Graham's recent developments is that he began signing. He knows eat, water, more, and milk, and with that success we'll add more signs soon. He surprised us on this trip by pointing to the lake and doing the sign for water. We were so impressed that he could transfer the idea of water in his cup to water that made up the lake! (For baby signing devotees, note that the way he signs for water is by pointing to his mouth with one finger rather than making a W with three fingers. We get it. It works.) The photo album for the whole trip is here.
